What is it?

Autologous treatments use products prepared from the person's own blood or fat tissue. Because nothing foreign is introduced, the risk of allergy is low. The aim is to support the tissue's own capacity to renew itself and to restore lost volume with the person's own tissue.

Methods used

  • PRP and CGF: Plasma and fibrin preparations separated from the blood and rich in growth factors. See PRP and CGF for details.
  • Fat injection: Fat taken with a fine cannula from an area such as the abdomen or thigh is processed and injected into areas of the face that have lost volume.
  • SVF (stromal vascular fraction): The cellular part separated from fat tissue; it can be used for skin quality and hair treatments.

Which method suits you is decided at the consultation, based on the concern and the area to be treated.

How is it done?

  1. Your expectations and suitability are assessed; blood tests may be requested.
  2. Depending on the method, blood is drawn from the arm or a small amount of fat is taken under local anaesthesia.
  3. The tissue is processed under sterile conditions in the clinic.
  4. The prepared product is applied to the planned area with a fine needle or cannula.

Aftercare

  • Swelling, bruising and tenderness at the treated and donor areas may last a few days.
  • A compression garment or bandage may be advised for the fat donor area.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas and Turkish baths for the first few days.
  • After fat injection, part of the fat may be reabsorbed over time and a further session may be needed.

Who may not be suitable?

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Blood disorders, clotting disorders or use of blood thinners (please tell your physician)
  • Active infection or fever
  • Ongoing cancer treatment
  • People without enough fat tissue for harvesting
